The Rise of Skin Rejuvenation
Juliette Chahoud
Noticed the shift in aesthetic trends over the past few years? It seemed like not long ago we were stuck in the volume era, of more is more. Don’t get me wrong – dermal fillers still have their time and place. But more recently, the focus has turned towards skin rejuvenation (think glassy skin, natural results and a vibrant, fresh look). Increased awareness regarding filler migration has also pushed the preference for treatments that leave you looking rejuvenated and not overdone.
Take Molly-Mae Hague for example. The left photo is from 2019 where she has a voluminous and boxy look and filler migration is apparent. The right photo is more recent and is a sign of the times – less volume, fresher skin – leading to a younger, more feminine look.
It’s becoming less about adding volume and more about restoring from within – supporting the skin’s own ability to heal, hydrate and regenerate. This means choosing treatments that improve cellular function, stimulate collagen and strengthen the skin barrier. Rather than masking concerns, the goal is to work with the skin, not against it, to create long-lasting, healthy radiance.
“Rejuran and biostimulators have become a game changer for those wanting a solution that seeks to enhance, rather than hide, their natural beauty – whilst also building on long-term skin integrity”
As part of this shift, more and more clients are requesting treatments that focus on collagen stimulation and skin regeneration. These treatments work completely different to traditional fillers and they don’t “freeze” movement like Botox. Of course, anti-wrinkle is the bread and butter of aesthetics when it comes to softening lines; but now clients are looking to pair anti-wrinkle with treatments that promote skin integrity and rejuvenation.
So what do these treatments look like?
Rejuran
Rejuran – the injectable that’s become one of the most sought-after skin treatments and for good reason! Rejuran works at the epidermal junction, where signs of skin ageing, inflammation and barrier impairment begin. This is what makes it a true regenerative treatment!
Rejuran contains polynucleotides which are highly purified DNA fragments derived from salmon, chosen for their exceptional compatibility with human DNA. These molecules have been shown to promote cellular repair, reduce inflammation and improve skin barrier function by encouraging natural healing processes at a cellular level.
What makes Rejuran stand out is its ability to repair, rebuild and restore skin. Amongst other things, it’s effective at reducing:
scarring, including mild to moderate acne scarring;
textural irregularities and pigmentation;
enlarged pores;
dark circles and crepey under-eyes; and
fine lines and wrinkles.
Biostimulators
Compared to Rejuran, biostimulators work deeper, within the dermis and subcutaneous layer of the skin. These treatments deeply hydrate the skin and stimulate fibroblast cells to promote the production of collagen and elastin. The results are subtle but effective, improving skin texture, tone and elasticity. Want to turn tired, dull skin to glassy? Then these treatments are for you.
And here’s where it gets even more exciting! Studies suggest that biostimulation treatments help slow down age-related changes at deeper levels; in particular, by supporting muscle tissue integrity and reducing the rate of fat cell degradation. In aesthetics, we often describe biostimulators as collagen banking and your future healthy skin will thank you for it.
Rejuran and biostimulators have become a game changer for those wanting a solution that enhances, rather than hides, their natural beauty – whilst also building on long-term skin integrity. These treatments offer a proactive and preventative approach to cosmetics and are at the forefront of the shift back to an era of less is more.
We’re not just trying to patch over the cracks here!
